These players have made the observation that many slots machines’ purported RNGs do not actually generate random numbers, with certain number sequences coming up more often than others. Many RNGs–which have been termed pseudorandom number generators or PRNGs as a result of this non-random nature–eventually repeat certain number sequences. As we mentioned earlier, this behavior is often ascribed to poor programming. The fact is that it is a relatively simple matter to build PRNGs with numbered sequences so long that it would be impossible for computer to complete a single cycle in a reasonable amount of time. Furthermore, RNGs select numbers even when the machine is not currently being played. This ensures that slots machines player will not be able to tell where in the sequence the machines are.
